Linux has a lot to offer to people of all ages, including children. Many schools however only run Windows-based computers and will not consider changing to an alternative operating system. Tadpole Linux has been put together to offer such schools the opportunity to experience Linux without going against school policy and installing a different operating system. Tadpole Linux is a LiveCD distribution that lets teachers boot into a full Linux environment without affecting the existing hard drive contents. Tadpole Linux is based on Gentoo Linux. It is similar in scope to Edubuntu, but is based on KDELinuxWiki

as its desktop environment rather than GNOMELinuxWiki

. The programs on the LiveCD are geared mainly toward K-6 elementary school students.
