CrunchBang Linux is an Debian-based distribution featuring the lightweight Openbox window manager and GTK+ applications.
The distribution has been built from a minimal Debian system and customised to offer a good balance of speed and functionality. CrunchBang Linux is currently available as a live CD; however, as with most distributions, best performance is achieved by installing it to a hard disk. CrunchBang was formerly based on Ubuntu; however, with release of version 10 ("Statler"), the distribution switched its base to Debian sources.
Crunchbang began as a project from Philip Newborough in 2007 to create a light yet functional Ubuntu distribution using the lightweight yet powerful Openbox window manager. It is highly minimalist and considered extremely fast.
